What you should know about me
I want to take an active part in the \\\"Jugendfreiwilligendienst\\\" because I think it is a magnificent opportunity to help people as well as animals and a marvellous possibility to travel the world and to learn more about foreign countries and their cultures.
My name is Pauline Hörschelmann, I am 17 years old (15th May,1998) and I attend the \\\"Johann-Gottfried-Seume\\\" grammar school. I have been thinking about going abroad after having passed my a-levels for over three years now. Spending a year abroad will possibly help me to decide for a future profession or at least for the right study path. And, of course , it will improve my language skills and it will help me to grow in confidence.
Last summer I took part in a language travel to Dublin, Ireland. It was the very first time for me to be alone in a foreign country. During my stay I have gained intercultural experience and lived together with students from all around the world. I soon realised how fantastic it is to get to know a new country, its people, its culture, its language and its food. This was the moment when I finally decided to go abroad and be a volunteer.
While looking for organisations on the Internet I stumbled across your website and immediately thought: this is a perfect match! The given challenges and perspectives instantly inspired me. What is a better way to help people and learn about their cultures than living with them and experiencing and taking part in their daily lives and routine. I really want to be a volunteer because I plan on gaining life experiences. I think it is significant for young people to become involved in social and environmental projects and to see what the real world looks like.
I have a positive and an affirmative attitude to life and I want to help other people. When I am being asked to describe my character, I would describe myself as patient, dependable, capable of working in a team and responsible. Difficult situations that occur challenge me.
Unfortunately I have never gotten the chance to work or volunteer in social projects, but I am sure that taking an active part in a social project would fit me. I am open towards new cultures, languages and people and I am willing to adapt to any way of life. It is obvious that I will have to reduce my demands concerning the standard of living during my stay.
I am interested in voluntary work in the field of education, because I think here are the biggest gaps. Education represents the base for further development and especially the English language is very important in our age of globalisation. I frequently spend time with my little niece and I love teaching her new things while having a walk outside or while playing games or reading books. But I would also be interested in working in economic and ecological projects. Two years ago I did a student placement in a veterinary practice and I loved the idea of curing the injured. Besides I have always been interested in animal care, wildlife and nature. My family and I spend a huge amount of our free time in the woods hiking. We also travel a lot so that we get to experience the best parts nature has to offer. Environmental awareness is the only way of preventing the humanity from destroying the environment in order to survive. I would like to support people and help to preserve the beauty of our planet and to support animal protection of endangered species. Because people need to learn how to live in an environment - friendly way so they will be able to protect their nature.
I see the \\\"Jugendfreiwilligendienst\\\" as a chance for young people like me to promote tolerance, international exchange, intercultural experiences and friendship.
Thank you for considering me for the position as a volunteer in your projects.
