Motivation letter for a voluntary position in a home for the elderly

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to spend a voluntary year at your home for the elderly to get a better impression of the tasks in an old people´s home, because I like old people and want to become a nurse for the elderly later.

In 2015 all pupils of my school had to work one day of the year 2015 and I worked in an old people´s home close to where I live. There I mainly spent time with the old people: I walked outside with them, listened and talked to them, supported them, fed them and joined them at the art-therapy helping the art-therapist and the old people.

Now I´m working in a pharmacy and take the medicine to old people who are not able to walk so far anymore. I also deliver the medicine to the home of the elderly I worked in before. Through this job I regularly have contact to old people and more and more like the thought to make working with old people to my profession. Beside my social competence I acquired at School many artificial and manual skills that I could use for working with old people.

I want to spend my voluntary year in Reykjavik, because I´m very much associated with Iceland and want to learn Icelandic to understand the Icelandic culture and people better. I´m a very cooperative and open minded person and like supporting old people. I think, the support of old and ill people is becoming more and more important every year and I´d like to make the world a better place by making every day of the life of our parents and grandparents worth living.

Next July I´ll finish my School Leaving Certificate (secondary education) and will be available for a voluntary job in summer 2017 for about one year. Beside that I have to complete a social internship between June 5th and 23rd 2017 and would be very happy, if I could also spend this internship in an old peoples home.

I´d be very grateful receiving offers for positions in homes for the elderly in Reykjavik.
