Dear ladies and gentlemen,
since my graduation (Abitur) in 2014, I went backpacking around Europe for half a year. As I was on my own, almost without money and mostly depending on other peoples\' kindness, I\'ve learned how to appreciate and be grateful for everything given to me, but also - and most importantly - to never give up, as much as it might seem that there is no way out. Hitchhiking and jobbing as a tour guide in Prague, I feel like I improved my ability to judge human nature.
Then, after arriving back home, I started working in different scopes, for example in my hometown primary school offering homework supervision. Furthermore, I\'ve been tutoring students from 5th to 8th grade irregularly throughout the past years. At the moment I\'m also teaching refugees german occasionally. So I\'ve already had the chance to gain some instruction experience, both with children and adults - even with another cultural background. I really love to have kids around me and being able to pass on knowledge to someone else fills me with happiness.
Besides, I started engaging (and I still do) in my hometown\'s refugee support, where I was able to make utterly moving experiences. Which stuck in my memory most, was taking care of a young woman for 2 months since she recently gave birth to her baby.
Of course this environment made me deal with cultural differences and problems, arising due to language barriers and different mentalities.
Same did the following part of my life:
When I was 16, I went to Honduras to study abroad. After arriving back in Germany, I continued working for AFS (my exchange organization), hosting students or counselling them, which I\'m also still doing whenever I get the chance. I\'d say that both my exchange year and the AFS work afterwards where probably the most coining life experiences for me so far. Those made me turn into an open-minded and much more questioning person, characteristics that I hope to keep and strengthen.
So all in all, the mentioned circumstances in my life made me an independent, reflective and caring person, aware of other cultures\' distinctions and respecting other human beings\' individuality. (What what the world be without diversity?)
I decided to study languages and cultures, but until then I would appreciate to get the chance to participate in (maybe your?) project.
You can gather from my projects picked in the box above that my range of interest is wide - such as my choice of countries. (\"Other\" means that I\'d go anywhere.)
If you think I fit your project, I would be more than happy to hear from you.
With kind regards,
Mareike Müller
