I am Danica, a 23 years old living in Philippines. I would like to apply for participation as a volunteer in organization. I love the opportunity to volunteer for a project at first sight, I immediately knew I wanted to be part of it. I think that to participate in social work, in a project like this, is the best way to do something that really fits to me.
I feel the need to grow enriching my culture, language and learning from people that are working. Moreover, the opportunity will provide me with a huge opportunity of having international exposure and multicultural perspective.
In March 2014 I obtained a Bachelors of Tourism Management at University of San Carlos. Having my Internship in Mactan International Airport under Public Affairs Office at Information Counter both International and Domestic Arrival.
Tourism industry is one of the largest industries in the world that contributes to the economic growth of a country, that is why I chose to study this course. In the Philippines Tourism Industry is the 2nd largest contributor to the Philippine economy, after Agriculture. I also love to study History and Geography, and always want to communicate different people in different walks of life.
I have learned so much, from Marketing to Management, from one on one conversations to conversing with lots of people. This course is characterized to be people-oriented, the foundations of this course are History, Geography, Culture, Tradition, Communication, Marketing and Management. I learned different languages from Spanish Language to French Language.
The most challenging projects I encountered is on the Events Management subject, for our final examinations we were required to organize an event and should earn more than our Capital, inviting and gathering people outside the school is the hardest, selling tickets is difficult but we survived that one. That measures me how good a team player we are. The most useful things I learned are handling people, handling clients and handling customers regardless what attitude they give to you.
Passing written exams are easy because whenever we are studying our lessons before exam we will realize that it is interesting and so it is easy to pass written exams, but, the hardest part of exams is the practical examinations, like Tour guiding, Event planning, event organizing, and of course Thesis defense. Dealing with different kinds of people and do things in professional ways are the most useful thing I learned.
I learned that I should requires patience and being flexible, I should be friendly, should be interested on meeting new people, I should have the courage to talk to them, and I should always smile and always be conscious of my physical appearance lastly should read, read, read especially history, geography, culture, tradition and the English language.
My past work experience is working in a Hotel as Front Desk Associate. Every single day I meet new people, facing different challenges being an open minded and easy-going person. It gives me a chance to practice my soft skills and learn to effectively communicate across cultures. I enjoy working with people and how to deal with conflicts.
I can adjust easily to fit into any work environment and have no problem working as part of a team. I can also function individually by taking the initiative and the responsibility to accomplish tasks on my own. I can perform equally well in any environment and cope effectively with the stresses of reaching a deadline. I am quick to adapt to new situations and enjoy challenges in my work.
I feel this opportunity would mean a great deal for my professional and personal growth. I am highly motivated, tolerant and dynamic individual with outstanding communication and organization skills. My other activities include cooking, singing, listening to music and watching movies. Reading is also an important part of my life.
I am eager to meet new challenges and find ways to improve myself. I am ready to learn and I would be very grateful if you would give me a chance to contribute to this project.
